Chelsea 0 Papiss Cissé 2
I can keep this one short and not so sweet. Certain players for Chelsea, the usual suspects as it were ((Malouda, Meireles, Danny Sturridge)), played like donkeys. Papiss Cissé for Newcastle played like the world class striker he’s become. And the result was a 0-2 loss to the Magpies at Stamford Bridge. With 2 games left, Chelsea is most likely going to finish in 6th place which given their inconsistent performances this season, which is right about where they belong.
Newcastle under Alan Pardew’s watch has surprised me. When Pardew controversially replaced the popular Chris Hughton as gaffer, Newcastle also shipped off the core of the team that got them promoted…Andy Carroll, Jose Enrique, skipper Kevin Nolan, and the always obsequious ((just kidding)) and clairvoyant Joey Barton. But under Alan Pardew they’ve played far better as a team, with less overall talent ((Cisse , Ba and Krul notwithstanding)) than Chelsea has. They’ve been cohesive as a unit and truly deserve to make the Champions League next season.
Chelsea? Well, unless we beat Bayern München in Munich on May 19th, then we’ll get what WE deserve….endless Thursday night football in grim European shitholes playing FC Plêrgb and SkëegleAFC.
So there you have it. Papiss Demba Cissé was one too many Magpies for us this Wednesday. In English and Scottish folklore, the magpie is generally considered to be a bad omen. So maybe our loss to Newcastle was not all that surprising after all. Hopefully, it doesn’t portend the death of all our hopes and dreams this weekend against Liverpool in the FA Cup final at Wembley and at Allianz Arena against Bayern München in 2 weeks.
