Since I can’t ever seem to think of anything clever to say about our Dairyland BJD Meetups, I won’t even begin to try. I also, this time, will (try) not (to) mention anything about the weather, the phases of the Moon, the British Open, The CONCACAF Gold Cup, nor the classic Robert Z. Leonard musical comedy In The Good Old Summertime starring Judy Garland and Van Johnson.
Nope, not a word about any of that in this opening sequence.
Instead I will laud and celebrate the members of Dairyland BJD and, of course, their dolls. I can’t believe it’s been 5 years that we’ve been doing this. But here we are…our 5th Summer Meetup, and this one was bigger and better than ever.
So instead of being tempted to fire a few pithy remarks about Mexico’s uninspired 1-0 defeat of Trinidad & Tobago in today’s quarter final CONCACAF Gold Cup tilt at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, I will jump right in here with what matter even more:
My favourite team from Serbia ((yes, for those of you who post frequently on Dairyland BJD….I do have a favourite team from Serbia)) took the first leg of their Europe League tilt with IBV. Played a great match. Kept a clean sheet. The return tilt will be played at the Hásteinsvöllurin tiny Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland. IBV really doesn’t stand a chance here. Crvena Zvezda was formed after WW2 by members of the United Association of Anti-Fascist Youth of Serbia. They have a huge and loyal fan base, and are sort of like the Green Packers of Serbia.
Remember that. I will probably have a question about it that next year’s Doll & Doll Owner Look-Alike Contest.
Belgium vs. USA in next year’s World Cup Final??
I could happen. Then again, so could a lot of other things. But I was thinking about it today as I wandered around the meetup taking pictures. Belgium is definately a dark horse at next years World Cup….and well, if Wondo, and Dempsey AND Altadore all click, then a Belgium/USA tilt final tilt could be a reality.
An alternate reality, perhaps. But still, a reality.
As long as neither club gets drawn (and quartered) in The Group of Death, of course.
Gooners Fans Discuss Arsenal’s Chances This Season
Since I’m not a Gooner, I have nothing to add to the conversation. Of course, if they get Luis Suarez, all bets will be off. Then again, the better pickup would Gonzalo Higuian. See? I have nothing to add whatsoever.
Panama 6 Cuba 1
That Cuba made the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup is somewhat of a modern miracle in it’s own right. That they lost is not the least bit surprising.
And since the match was played in Atlanta, I wonder how many of the Cuban players defected to the USA after the match. I have not heard as I tap out this lonely telegram, but it would not surprise me if a few of the Cuban lads go missing. My only problem with this is that they’re Cuban soccer players. I’m sorry to say, but that does not bode well for them in America ((San Marino, Liechtenstein, and perhaps the Faroe Islands, yes. America, not so much)).
If I was the public official charged with receiving them into the open arms of America, MY first question to them would be, “So, lads….ummmm……..do you play BASEBALL??”
ROONEY!!!!!!
The latest frantic pleas for and to Wayne Rooney are sweeping the Nation ((if the nation is England, that is)). It is only a matter of a descending series of moments before Rooney steps onto the pitch at Stamford Bridge to wreak havoc on Hull ((wearing the Chelsea blue, of course)).
Meanwhile, since Christian Bale has decide to NOT reprise his Batman persona in the new JUSTICE LEAGUE movie….why not get Gareth Bale to play Batman? Gareth Bale would make a really cool Batman. I don’t know if Gareth Bale can act or not….but what does that matter. He’ll be playing the goddamn Batman!!
People of Earth!!! I have news about…..
By the time most of you read this, the CONCACAF Gold Cup match between USA and El Salvador will have gone final. I see no reason, earth or extra-terrestrial, to think that USA will not win this one handily.
Once again, I wish to thank all the members of Dairyland BJD who’ve made our forum a special place over the last 5 years. And also their owners. Here’s to another 5 and many more.
And now…let’s everybody SING!!
